Over the years, we’ve seen a wide variety of Blue Oval models be used for emergency services purposes in various countries, whether they be based on passenger vehicles or crossovers/SUVs, or – more commonly – trucks and vans. Many fire departments have found that Ford vehicles can be quite useful for fighting flames or providing a rapid response to fires as well, going a bit beyond the traditional fire trucks that we’re all accustomed to seeing. Now, that list includes Spain, where the Ford Ranger is now serving as a member of one particular fire brigade, too.
The Ford Ranger is the latest recruit to join the Provincial Fire Brigade Consortium of Valencia in Spain, as that department has purchased six of those mid-size pickups with an investment of around 500,000 euros ($519,218 USD). Those Ford Ranger fire fighting pickups will be deployed in the six main areas of Sagunt, Torrent, Gandia, Paterna, Requena and Alzira, and are designed to provide a rapid response to any types of emergencies that may arise there.
These specially-outfitted Ford Ranger pickups are all equipped with four-wheel drive, along with a portable Advanced Control Station (PMA), plus a removable tray in the bed area that provides space for things like gas detectors, personal clothing bags, autonomous breathing equipment, and reserve stations. The pickups also have 210 horsepower on tap and offer up to 3,500 kilograms (7,716 pounds) of max towing capacity, along with emergency lighting and a trailer hitch. Overall, these models are quite similar to other Ford Ranger rapid response fire-fighting vehicles we’ve seen in other places, such as Finland.
“These investments reflect the involvement of this government team with the professionals of the Consortium and by extension, with all Valencians because our objective is to ensure that firefighters perform their work with the best possible tools, increasing security for them and citizens,” said Vicent Mompó, president of the Provincial Fire Brigade Consortium of Valencia.
