Ford Transit Custom Sport Announced For South Africa

The Ford Transit Custom Sport was revealed over a year ago, some time after the all-new Transit Custom on which it’s based made its own debut. As one might imagine, the Ford Transit Custom Sport is a sportier version of that more commercial-focused van, wearing unique exterior treatments such as a body kit and sport stripes. The Ford Transit Custom Sport subsequently launched in Australia in Q4 2024, and now, the sporty van is heading to South Africa as well, the automaker has announced.

In South Africa, the Ford Transit Custom Sport is available exclusively in short wheelbase configuration, and it touts some unique styling cues such as a body kit, a honeycomb-pattern sport grille, a rear spoiler, dual racing stripes, sport side decals, LED headlights and taillights, and unique 17-inch multi-spoke matte black alloy wheels wrapped with 215/60R17 tires.

Inside the cabin, the Transit Custom Sport features sport seats with blue accent stripes, piano black trim, a driver’s seat with six-way power adjustment and lumbar support, a passenger seat with four-way manual adjustment, dual armrests, and heated seats. These features join the typical ones present across the Transit Custom lineup, including the 13-inch infotainment screen running SYNC 4, plus a 12-inch digital instrument cluster.

The Ford Transit Custom Sport is powered by the turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0L EcoBlue diesel, which in this guise generates 125kW (168 horsepower) and 390 Nm (288 pound-feet) of torque, flowing to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Pricing for the new, sporty van comes in at R 938,000 ($51,148 USD), and it figures to only further fuel the automaker’s sales surge in South Africa. In fact, as Ford Authority recently reported, Ford South Africa posted a 6.4 percent increase year-over-year in 2024, selling a grand total of 32,765 vehicles – while the overall new vehicle market in that country experienced a three percent decline in that regard.
