While all Ford Mustang models bearing the Shelby name are special and unique in their own right, the first-generation examples are typically the most sought-after – not to mention valuable. We’ve seen this time and time again on the collector car auction circuit, as first-generation Ford Mustang Shelby models continue to pop up and sell for big bucks, whether they be in original condition or fully-restored. Now, this completely redone 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is likely set to become the next example of that phenomenon.
This 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is up for auction at Bring a Trailer after its full-blown restoration was completed in January, and it certainly looks to be in amazing condition. It’s also one of just 2,048 produced in this particular model year, and has been refinished in its original shade of Lime Gold after a previous respray in black. The pony does feature a fiberglass louvered hood with a ram-air scoop that’s not original, as well as reproduction Magstar wheels, and it was involved in an accident at one point in its life, but one would be hard-pressed to tell that today.
Inside the cabin, Parchment vinyl covered seats are present and accounted for, along with a roll bar, optional shoulder harnesses , an AM radio, and a Hurst shifter, plus a non-original, reproduction three-spoke woodgrain steering wheel. Power comes from a rebuilt 428 cubic-inch V8 that’s fitted with some non-original parts, which is mated to a four-speed Toploader gearbox. Regardless, the stellar-looking Shelby comes with a window sticker, a Jason Billups summary, a Shelby American Automobile Club registry report, a Deluxe Marti report, and service records.
This is just the latest interesting first-generation Ford Mustang model we’ve seen surface for sale in recent years, a list that also includes a 1965 Shelby GT350R that was featured in Carroll Shelby‘s Cobra Caravan, a 1966 Shelby GT350H, plus a 1968 Mustang Eleanor replica that’s based on a movie car equipped with many Shelby design cues.
