Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for an enhanced factory navigation system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on July 31st, 2023, published on February 6th, 2025, and assigned serial number 0044113.
Ford has been busy filing patents outlining various ways our future factory navigation systems might work over the past few months, each of which is interesting in its own unique way. That list includes ideas for a navigation system designed to better operate on curvy roads, a navigation prediction vehicle assistant, and an AI assisted travel routing system, to name just a few. Now, this newly published patent keeps that trend going with a new idea – this time, for an enhanced factory navigation system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, too.
As Ford points out in the patent filing, modern-day navigation systems lean on turn-by-turn directions to enhance the user’s experience, but in some cases, the systems don’t take into account what kind of situation the user is facing at any given moment, nor road conditions, which can result in inconveniences. As such, it proposes utilizing vehicle-to-everything technology to obtain that sort of information from everything including other vehicles that are nearby to traffic lights, as well as the vehicle’s camera systems.
An example of this could be when a traffic light is red, at which point the navigation could instruct the user to “turn right when the light turns green,” or adding additional instructions in places like construction zones. The system would also be able to use points of interest as references, whether that be a gas station, museum, or anything else – making it potentially viable for use in future Ford vehicles.
“Submitting patent applications is a normal part of any strong business as the process protects new ideas and helps us build a robust portfolio of intellectual property,” Ford said in a statement. “The ideas described within a patent application should not be viewed as an indication of our business or product plans. No matter what the patent application outlines, we will always put the customer first in the decision-making behind the development and marketing of new products and services.”
