Imported 1989 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth Resurfaces After Four Years

Back in 2021, a very nice example of an imported 1989 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth surfaced for sale at auction, which is notable for a number of reasons. It isn’t terribly often that we see one of these legendary vehicles go up for grabs, after all, a machine that was conceived as a way to make the automaker competitive in European motorsport once again. For that, it hooked up with Cosworth, a longtime partner of Ford, to develop a special powerplant that would make the Sierra unbeatable on the racetrack. Now, this same Ford Sierra RS Cosworth is up for grabs yet again, four years after we last saw it.

This Ford Sierra RS Cosworth is once again being auctioned off at Bring a Trailer, but it has only accumulated around 1,000 additional miles since we last saw it – now, it’s showing 88k on the odometer, which equates to around 55k miles. The seller did repaint the bumper covers and side skirts during their period of ownership, though there are still a few paint chips present on the hood and spoiler. The classic machine rolls on a set of 15-inch alloy wheels wrapped with 205/50 Hankook Ventus V12 tires at the moment.

Inside the cabin, one will find Recaro front bucket seats covered in gray cloth, along with power windows. The seller has done some work inside the cabin, as the three-spoke steering wheel trim has been reupholstered and the left-front door panel trim was repaired under current ownership, though the Pioneer stereo isn’t working at the moment and the carpet has some wear spots present.

Pop the hood, and one will find the DOHC, turbocharged 2.0L YB-series I-4 that was originally rated to produce 204 horsepower and 205 pound-feet of torque. Mated to a five-speed manual transmission, that power flows to the rear wheels for a truly engaging driving experience, which is further aided by the car’s fully independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes. If nothing else, this is a pretty nicely kept example of a legendary car, and for that reason alone, we don’t doubt that it will garner plenty of interest at auction this time around – as was the case previously.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
