Major Ford Sync 4 Update Aims To Fix Phone Connectivity Issues

Ford’s SYNC software has been around for a number of years now, and is currently offered in various forms in a number of new models – at least, those that don’t utilize the fairly new Ford or Lincoln Digital Experience software. The latest version – SYNC 4 – has received a few updates as of late as well, but as is the case with a lot of software out there, it still has some known issues and annoying bugs that many have been hoping Ford would address. The good news is, that seems to be the case, as a major SYNC 4 update just dropped.

This news comes to us from Brian Makuloco, a Ford technician who has made many videos outlining common problems with Blue Oval vehicles over the years, in addition to running his own business, BSG Automotive. In this new post on Instagram, Makuloco reveals that this new SYNC 4 update just rolled out, and it addresses some common issues including problems with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay intermittently losing connectivity, as well as Alexa, audio, and GPS-related connectivity issues.

This update comes on the heels of a SYNC 4A revision in early 2024 for the Ford Mustang Mach-E  and another that launched for the Ford F-150 Lightning last December. The latter update moved tools including Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Zone Lighting from the settings menu to the Apps screen for easier access. Additionally, all camera view options can now be found on a single screen that’s easier to access without the need for scrolling, and the settings menu has been tweaked to display all pertinent information on one page. External media sources such as Bluetooth and USB are now lumped together in a single Media app, and the main navigation bar icons are new and more intuitive, to boot.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  1. I’m glad they’re still updating it, but as I learned with having one of the first Sync3s, when a new platform rolls out, the old one is forgotten. So, very soon DE will obliterate Sync4. Other manufacturers just keep updating their platforms but Ford finds it necessary to develop entirely new ones (Google Built-In excepted for others), which is a big drawback to Ford.

  2. Ford uses software updates as “incentives” to get you to buy a new car. They think you should buy a new car like you buy a new laptop to get the latest updates and features.

One problem with that. I don’t buy an $80,000 laptop just to get software updates every 3 years.

  3. Ford, disappointing customers is job 1. I am still waiting for BlueCruise to update after 4 years.
