The Ford Explorer is among the longest-running and most successful automotive nameplates on sale today, helping to redefine the SUV as we know it. For the most part, the Explorer has gained favor among retail consumers due to the fact that it has plenty of room inside the cabin in a more reasonably sized exterior, providing good value for those that need such a vessel for hauling the whole family around. As it turns out, the Ford Explorer isn’t quite as popular with fleet customers, however.
According to Ford’s Q4 2024 earnings report, the Ford Explorer accounted for less than 30 percent of the automaker’s Ford Pro sales in 2024, which is actually one of the highest figures in the non-commercial Ford Blue lineup. Explorer sales totaled 194,094 units throughout the course of 2024, meaning that Ford Pro customers did purchase around 58,000 or so examples of the SUV last year, which is still a sizable amount. That percentage of Ford Pro sales is actually among the highest of the regular Ford Blue lineup, however.
Aside from those two models, this particular report has some interesting information pertaining to which Ford Blue models are favored among Ford Pro customers, too. Less than 20 percent of Ford Maverick sales in 2024 went to the commercial-focused side of the business, while the Ford Mustang Mach-E accounted for less than five percent of that mix and the Ford Bronco came in at less than one percent.
Meanwhile, interestingly enough, the discontinued Ford Edge had the highest fleet sales of any retail Blue Oval model, with a little less than 40 percent of its overall sales going to Ford Pro customers. That figure was higher than any other model in Ford’s lineup, with the Expedition and Explorer ranking behind it at sub-30 percent in each case. This, in spite of the fact that the last North American Edge rolled off the assembly line at the Oakville Assembly plant in Canada back in May 2024.

The Ford Explorer is very nice. And It would be great if Ford would bring the Everest to the US market. The Everest looks fantastic and has great features.
