YouTuber Cleetus McFarland is not exactly known for his tact and precision behind the wheel. He’s the very same driver who hosted an absolutely insane Ford Ranger race on dirt Bristol – which, of course, saw several trucks flipped over on their roofs – and subjected a poor Ford Crown Victoria to a tank full of diesel without proper conversion. He’s now going to be on probation for the rest of the 2025 ARCA Series season, thanks to some shenanigans at the season-opening race at Daytona on February 15th, 2025.
Right off the bat, McFarland admits that he was at fault for the probation and discouraged his viewers from going after NASCAR itself. McFarland said that he was participating in a preseason test that would determine whether or not he could continue to race, and he broke a few rules during the event.
One of those rules was the use of an in-car camera, which NASCAR sanctioned series do not allow. McFarland had a camera attached to his helmet, which breaks NASCAR’s data collection rule. To keep the playing field equal, the sanctioning body just doesn’t allow any in-car cameras. Thankfully, McFarland approached NASCAR and the two reached a compromise, allowing him to race with an in-car camera supplied directly by NASCAR.
McFarland also admitted that he “screwed up.” One of the ARCA Series officials made a comment that McFarland’s safety equipment was not up to standard, and he simply ignored it. This resulted in a fine, but he took full blame and admitted that he needs to “quit being an idiot.” McFarland wasn’t able to really show what his No. 30 NASCAR Ford Mustang could do at Daytona. He was swept up into two crashes, one that ultimately ended his run. He is credited with a 30th-place finish in the season-opening ARCA race, officially ranked with a DNF result.
