One-Owner 1998 Ford Contour SVT With 51K Miles Up For Auction

Though it may not exactly be the most valuable, sought-after, or capable model to ever emerge from The Blue Oval’s defunct Special Vehicle Team unit, the Ford Contour SVT is beginning to gain steam as a collectible vehicle, regardless. In fact, we’ve seen a number of nice Ford Contour SVT models surface for sale at collector car auctions as of late, many of them sporting low miles and presenting in largely excellent condition. The last example of that phenomenon is this – a one-owner 1998 Ford Contour SVT with just 51k miles on the clock.

This particular Ford Contour SVT is up for auction at Cars & Bids, but it comes with a rather sad story. The sporty sedan was purchased by a married couple new, who proceeded to enjoy it over the ensuing years, but sadly, the husband recently passed away, and now, the wife is looking to pass it on to a fellow enthusiast. That couple certainly cared for the car in a loving manner over the years, because it’s in incredible condition with just the typical rock chips and scratches adorning its factory Silver Frost Clearcoat Metallic paint.

The same goes for the Midnight Blue interior, which just has some typical creasing on the leather seat bolsters, but is in otherwise excellent shape with amenities including a power sunroof, a power driver’s seat, remote keyless entry, air conditioning, cruise control, and an AM/FM radio with a CD player. Power comes from the SVT-modified 2.5L V6 Duratec engine, which was factory-rated to generate 195 horsepower and 165  pound-feet of torque, flowing to the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.

This is just one of several Ford Contour SVT models we’ve seen hit the auction block as of late, potentially signaling increased collector interest in these once-forgotten machines. That list most recently includes a 1998 Contour SVT with 36k miles, a 1999 with 55k miles, as well as a 2000 model with 46k miles.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  1. The Contour was a good mid-level car. I had a 1999 and drove it for 8 years and put over 135K on it. Later on I heard it was still on the road with over 200K on it. It got over 30 mpg highway when 30 mpg wasn’t cool.
