The Ford Transit Courier is a small but capable delivery vehicle built and marketed overseas. A Romanian telecommunications company recently furnished its fleet with over 450 units of the small hauler, bringing the vehicle to Romanian highways, complete with a standout yellow and white livery to make it stand out from the swaths of vehicles out on the road.
DIGI Romania purchased 471 units of the Ford Transit Courier for its fleet. The vans will go directly into service for the company, which also conducts business in Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Belgium. On Romanian roads, though, the Ford Transit Courier won’t be too far from its birthplace. The van is built in Ford Otosan Craiova Assembly plant in Romania alongside the Transit Tourneo, where production began in late 2023.
The Ford Transit Courier is offered with the turbocharged 1.0L I-3 EcoBoost, which is rated at either 100 or 125 PS, depending on application. Transit Courier van and double-cab-in-van customers can also opt for the turbocharged 1.5L I-3 EcoBoost in a 100 PS variant, which is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. There’s also the Ford E-Transit Courier, which offers an electric alternative to the gasoline-powered Transit Courier, which offers up to 300 km (186 miles) of range on a full charge, and a 700 (1,544 pounds) payload rating.
“The team in Craiova is doing great work to deliver these exciting new models to our customers,” said Hans Schep, general manager, Ford Pro, Europe, in a statement when the Transit Courier was unveiled early last year. “We’ve made the all‑new Transit Courier bigger, more capable, and fully connected to support customers at work and accelerate their productivity, with enhanced load carrying and full integration with our Ford Pro platform of software and services. All this comes in an SUV-styled package that we know customers love.”
The Ford Transit Courier has racked up accolades as a safe vehicle, cleaning house in the Euro NCAP safety tests.
