First-generation Ford Mustang models have always been incredibly popular not only among fans of cool and historic cars in general, but also, collectors. In that regard, there are plenty of special, rare, and celebrity-owned pony cars that hit the auction block on a regular basis, some more valuable than others. This 1965 Ford Mustang is certainly part of that rather long list, as it sports an exterior color that wasn’t offered on that model when it was new, but instead, is a Thunderbird hue.
Up for auction at Hagerty, this 1965 Ford Mustang was special-ordered from the factory in Rose Beige paint (Code W), which makes it a truly unique example of its breed. It was repainted in that same hue back in 2008, however, and there are some imperfections on the rocker panels, front fender, and near the rear window and trunk lid, but it’s still a cool and unique pony car, regardless. The Mustang features a white vinyl top to complement that special paint color, along with a few other flaws including pitting on the bumper chrome. The Mustang currently rolls on a set of Hercules MRX Plus IV P195/75R14 tires.
Inside the cabin, one will find a black and white interior with white vinyl bucket seats up front, a 120 mph speedometer, plus gauges for the fuel level and coolant temperature, along with warning lights for the oil pressure and alternator. There’s a humble AM radio in the dash, but no noted flaws, interestingly enough. The spare tire and jack are present and accounted for, and the pony car is motivated by the naturally-aspirated Ford 289 cubic-inch V8 factory-rated to send 200 horsepower to the wheels via the C4 three-speed automatic transmission.
This very cool and unique 1965 Ford Mustang took home an award at a Hilton Head, South Carolina car show back in 2016, and is certainly one of very few that were finished in this particular hue from the factory – making it a potentially desirable target for collectors.
