1986 Ford Mustang SVO With 21K Miles Up For Auction

The Ford Mustang SVO has long stood as an interesting footnote in the pony car’s illustrious history, a unique-looking machine with turbocharged four-cylinder power that represented a big departure for the iconic model. We’ve seen the values of nicely kept examples creep up in recent years when they become available, and that should include this very nice 1986 Ford Mustang SVO that’s currently up for grabs at auction.

This 1986 Ford Mustang SVO is listed for sale over at Bring a Trailer with just 21k miles on the clock, making it a nice example of its breed that’s finished in Oxford White in this case. The seller notes that three dents have been repaired, though there’s a ding in the hood and some paint touch-ups present, however. Otherwise, the exterior is in nice condition and still sporting the SVO’s unique biplane rear spoiler and front end styling, plus an offset hood scoop and 16-inch alloy wheels.

What’s even more interesting is the fact that this Ford Mustang SVO was equipped from the factory with the weight-reducing Competition Preparation option, which means that it’s lacking amenities like air conditioning, power windows, power locks, and a sound system, though it does tout power steering, four-wheel disc brakes, and adjustable Koni dampers. Power comes from the turbocharged 2.3L I-4, which was factory rated to produce 200 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque, flowing to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential – though the engine does have an aftermarket roller camshaft and breathes through Flowmaster mufflers.

It’s been a while since we’ve come across a Ford Mustang SVO that was quite this nice – years, in fact. Back in 2021, a pair of them did surface for sale at auction, however, a list that included a one-owner 1986 Mustang SVO with just 19k miles on the clock, as well as a 1984 example with 13k miles.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  1. Those things were a very tough sell especially against the Buick Grand Nationals. They didn’t have enough power to pull the skin off a rice pudding!! LOL
