While the sporty, two-seat, convertible first-generation models have always been the apple of collectors’ proverbial eye, later versions of the Ford Thunderbird have also slowly been gaining steam in that regard, too. In recent months, we’ve seen a number of ’80s T-Birds surface for sale at various collector car auctions, selling for increasingly large sums of money, signaling that they may soon join their earlier brethren in that regard. Now, this very nice, low-mile 1987 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe aims to be the next on this growing list.
This 1987 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe is currently up for auction at Bring a Trailer with just 37k miles on the clock, and as one might assume given that information, it’s in very nice condition. This T-Bird is finished in Silver Clearcoat Metallic paint with the Turbo-specific front fascia along with dual intercooler hood scoops, automatic headlights, front cornering lights, a keyless entry pad, and a retractable antenna, plus 16-inch aluminum wheels.
The same goes for the interior, which features Scarlet Red upholstered, power-adjustable front seats and a rear bench, along with amenities such as a cassette stereo system with a graphic equalizer, power windows, power locks, cruise control, and automatic climate control. The T-Bird also comes with Ford’s Automatic Ride Control suspension – the first for a U.S.-based manufacturer – and is powered by the turbocharged 2.3L I-4 engine that was originally rated to produce 190 horsepower, mated to a five-speed manual transmission and a Traction-Lok limited-slip differential.
Along with this nice Turbo Coupe, we’ve spotted a few other ’80s Ford Thunderbird models up for sale with low miles as of late, too. That list includes a 1987 T-Bird with just 4k original miles that has gone up for grabs not just once, but twice in the past two years or so, as well as a 1988 model with 38k miles.

Had a chance to buy a nice one last year, never got around to it and it sold (same exterior color, grey interior).
I didn’t appreciate these enough when i was younger. Really neat cars.
Here in Mexico; this turbo version was not available; I mean brand new from an authorized dealer. But a few weeks ago I spotted one in Michoacan quite rickety but still restorable. It was brought to Mexico as a second hand vehicle 5 years ago.
My favorite T-bird, such a great looking car!
