Back in March 2023, we came across a like-new 1987 Ford Thunderbird at auction with just 3k miles on the clock – an astoundingly low figure for a vehicle of this vintage. It was delivered new to Packey Webb Ford in Wheaton, Illinois, and given the fact that it has barely been driven over the ensuing years – coupled with some tender loving care by the folks that have owned it since – the T-Bird remains in amazing condition. Now, nearly two years later, the same 1987 Ford Thunderbird has resurfaced for sale, however.
This super sanitary Ford Thunderbird is once again up for auction at Bring a Trailer, this time, with just a hair fewer than 4,000 miles on the clock – meaning that the seller added a mere 50 to the car’s tally over the past two years. Finished in Dark Shadow Blue Clearcoat Metallic with pinstriping and body-side molding, the exterior is in fantastic shape, though its original 14-inch alloy wheels have been replaced by 16-inch Turbo Coupe-style units, wrapped in 225/70 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires, though the originals are included with the sale. The seller also performed a paint correction recently, which has the T-Bird looking even better.
The same goes for the gorgeous, flawless interior, which is trimmed in Shadow Blue cloth with six-way power-adjustable front bucket seats, a tilt steering wheel, air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, power locks, an AM/FM cassette stereo, and an aftermarket Bluetooth adaptor. Power for this pristine T-Bird comes from the naturally-aspirated Ford 5.0L V8, which was originally rated to produce 155 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque, flowing to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. Underneath, a set of power-assisted front disc brakes helps the coupe down.
The last time we saw this stunning Ford Thunderbird hit the auction block, it sold for a mere $13,000, which seemed somewhat low at the time. Now, it’ll certainly be interesting to see if the seller can make a few bucks this go-round, though we imagine that they will do precisely that.
