The Ford Mustang – now 60 years old – has long been a favorite among collectors, though certain models tend to be valued quite a bit higher than others. In the SN95 generation, most gravitate toward the high-performance SVT Cobra, which was offered in various forms throughout that model’s fourth-generation, and has since become a regular at collector car auctions. Now, this 1998 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra is joining those ranks, and it’s a rather nice example with just 18k miles on the clock.
This 1998 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra is currently up for auction at Cars & Bids looking basically as good as new. In fact, the only noted negative on the outside is the fact that its tires have a 2000 date code, so they’ll need to be replaced for safety’s sake. Otherwise, its Chrome Yellow paint looks to be in perfect condition, along with the sporty model’s original and unique 17-inch wheels, as well as its SVT Cobra-specific bodywork.
This particular Ford Mustang SVT Cobra is well-equipped with the optional Power Group – which added niceties including power windows, power door locks, power door mirrors, and a power trunk lid release – along with leather seats, air conditioning, and a CD player/cassette stereo system. There are some typical creases in the leather seats, as one would expect, but otherwise, it’s a tidy cabin, overall. Power comes from the (unmodified) naturally-aspirated Ford 4.6L V8, which was factory-rated to produce 305 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque, flowing to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.
We’ve seen a few other interesting Ford Mustang SVT Cobra models hit the auction block as of late, too, each of which was appealing for different reasons. That list includes a 1994 SVT Cobra Pace car, as well as a 1996 model finished in the famous color known as Mystic Clearcoat Metallic, plus a 1997 Cobra that served as the personal instructor car for the late Bob Bondurant, a motorsports legend and the creator of the Bondurant Racing School.
