After originally debuting in 1955, the Ford Thunderbird proceeded to exist in various forms over ten generations before bowing out in the late 1990s, only to return in retro-inspired guise in 2002. Inspired by the two-seater original, the 11th generation Ford Thunderbird hung around until 2005, and since then, that model has since remained absent from FoMoCo’s lineup. However, we come across plenty of nice, low-mile examples of these T-Birds for sale all the time, and that includes this stellar 2002 model.
This 2002 Ford Thunderbird is one of a long line of nice examples we’ve seen surface for sale recently, and this time, it’s being auctioned off at Bring a Trailer with a mere 6k miles on the odometer. It remained in the possession of the original owner until December 2024, when it was acquired by the selling dealer, and it’s in excellent condition on the outside, with just a few blemishes marring its Torch Red paint. The T-Bird features a contrasting Performance White removable hardtop as well, along with a power-operated Midnight Black soft top.
Inside, one will find black leather power-adjustable seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, and an AM/FM stereo with an in-dash CD changer. As is the case with every Ford Thunderbird from this generation, the drop top is powered by the naturally-aspirated 3.9L V8, which was factory-rated to produce 252 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, flowing to the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission.
Those looking for a nice, low-mile, last-generation Ford Thunderbird certainly have plenty to choose from these days, that’s for sure. In fact, even if we limit ourselves to the 2002 model year, we’ve spotted at least two in the past few weeks – one, an Inspiration Yellow model with a matching painted removable hardtop that had just 3k miles on the clock, as well as an Evening Black example with 31k miles.
