After first appearing on the scene back in 1955, the Ford Thunderbird proceeded to morph into different sized vehicles over ten generations before it was discontinued in the late 1990s, only to return in 2002 looking a lot like a modernized version of the original. The 11th generation Ford Thunderbird only remained on sale until 2005, and the T-Bird hasn’t returned to The Blue Oval’s lineup since. However, we come across plenty of nice, low-mile examples of these Thunderbirds at auction quite frequently, and that now includes this stellar 2004 model.
This 2004 Ford Thunderbird is up for auction at Bring a Trailer with just 16k miles on the clock, which is quite low, though also pretty common for this model, as many owners simply didn’t drive them much in hopes that they’d one day profit tremendously from their sale. The influx of nice, low-mile T-Birds has thus far prevented that from happening, but that also means this Merlot Metallic model may wind up selling for reasonable money, too.
Along with its unique first-year paint color, matching hard top, and power-operated Light Sand soft top, this Thunderbird also left the factory with a Light Sand leather interior complemented by black accents and touting amenities such as dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, and an AM/FM stereo with an in-dash CD changer. Power comes from the naturally-aspirated 3.9L V8, which was factory-rated to produce 252 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, flowing to the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission.
Those looking for a nice, low-mile, last-generation Ford Thunderbird certainly have plenty to choose from these days, if nothing else. In fact, in just the past few weeks alone, we’ve spotted a pair of excellent examples at auction – a Torch Red 2002 with just 6k original miles showing on the odometer, as well as another 2002 finished in Evening Black with 31k miles.
