As many Blue Oval fans are well aware, the relationship between Ford and rental car giant Hertz dates back to the 1960s, when the duo paired up to build the very first “rent-a-racer” – the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350-H. This distinctive black-and-gold pony car created a ton of buzz when it arrived on the scene, largely because it gave folks the opportunity to go out and rent what was, quite literally, a race car for the street. There have been several generations of Ford Mustang Shelby Hertz models since then, and now, a newer one is heading to auction.
This 2006 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H is up for grabs at Hagerty with just under 1,500 miles on the clock, which is certainly a low figure by anyone’s standards. Aside from the fact that it has zero flaws present, what makes it even more notable is the fact that this Shelby GT-H was used only for promotional purposes and was never rented to anyone via Hertz. It has lived with three owners thus far, and now, it’s looking for a fourth.
The 2006 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H marked the first collaboration between the late Carroll Shelby and The Blue Oval in quite some time when it arrived on the scene, and sported the familiar Shadow Black paint with gold stripes, along with the FR1 Power Pack, FR3 Ford Racing Handling Pack, 3.55 gears, and a dual exhaust, unique grille, hood, rear deck spoiler, 17-inch wheels, and side brake scoops from Shelby itself. Only 500 of these special models were built in total. This is number 472 of those 500 units, and it’s listed in the Shelby Registry.
Along with the aforementioned features, this Shelby GT-H also sports an interior upgrade package with black leather trim, a Shelby dash plaque, and the Shaker 500 audio system inside. Power came from the upgraded Ford 4.6L V8, which in this guise was rated to produce 325 horsepower and is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. Other notable mechanical upgrades include a shock tower brace and four-wheel ABS brakes. With all of the original paperwork, the window sticker, and a certificate of authenticity, this might just be the most desirable 2006 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H out there, too.
