2006 Ford Shelby GT150 Prototype Pickup Heading To Auction

Ford and Shelby have enjoyed a cozy relationship for decades to this point, and it’s one that continues to this day. Over those years, both companies have helped each other create some special versions of various Blue Oval models, many of which started life in prototype form and later wound up in mass production. Every so often, we see one of those prototypes hit the auction block, and now, another one is set to be sold very soon – this 2006 Ford Shelby GT150 prototype.

This 2006 Ford Shelby GT150 prototype is slated to be auctioned off at Mecum’s 2025 Houston sale in early April, giving someone a unique opportunity to own what is one of just three such models built in total. The idea for the more street performance-focused pickup came about as Shelby Automobiles and Unique Performance wanted to create a suitable replacement for the F-150 SVT Lightning, which was discontinued and replaced by the off-road-focused F-150 Raptor. Thus, back in 2005, those two companies got to work making precisely that.

Ultimately, only three Shelby GT150 models were built, each sporting a host of modifications. Those include a custom Shelby body kit with a composite hood, tonneau cover, and rear spoiler, plus unique front and rear fascias. The GT150 is also equipped with 22-inch Shelby wheels, a GT500-style grille insert, Baer brakes, a Ford Racing exhaust, a lowered suspension, and 3.73 gears. Power comes from a supercharged Ford 5.4L V8, which is mated to an automatic transmission.

This very unique and quite rare Shelby GT150 prototype is one of several such models we’ve seen hit the auction block in recent years, however. That list also includes a 2007 Ford Shelby GT prototype, a 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby Turbo prototype, and a 2014 Mustang Shelby GT500 Super Snake prototype, to name just a few from that iconic tuner.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
