In recent years, we’ve watched as restomods have exploded in popularity, which makes sense given the fact that they combine timeless vintage styling of older vehicles with modern creature comforts and mechanicals. Restomods are seemingly the best of all worlds, but there are also many different kinds of restomods. Rather than stuffing modern mechanicals in old vehicles, some folks have opted to just apply the bodywork of something vintage directly on top of a something newer, and that’s precisely what’s going on with this 2007 Ford Crown Victoria wearing 1961 Ford F-100 bodywork.
This type of treatment has become quite popular over the years, even though it seemingly requires a ton of work to complete. Regardless, someone can now buy this already-built F-100 that’s really just a Ford Crown Victoria with vintage sheetmetal applied to it, because it’s up for auction at Bring a Trailer. This 1961 F-100 was purchased years ago and still sports its Caribbean Turquoise paint, along with white trim and plenty of patina. If one didn’t know any better, they’d think it was just an old beater of a pickup, but there’s much more to the story than that.
Peek in the bed, and one will find a large hump that provides some clues, all while making room for the Crown Vic’s rear axle and fuel tank underneath, along with the car’s power-assisted front discs and rear drums, rack and pinion steering, 4.6L V8, and four-speed automatic transmission. The interior is all retro, however, with a bench seat covered in black vinyl with plaid inserts, along with engine-turned metal trim, an Alpine digital head unit, and air conditioning controls hidden in the glovebox.
We’ve seen our fair share of body swaps and other – oftentimes strange – creations over the years, in addition to this particular build. That list includes everything from an S550 Ford Mustang with 1967 pony car bodywork to a Ford Taurus wearing Chevy Camaro panels, and a Mustang/Crown Victoria mashup.
