The first-ever Ford Ranger PHEV (plug-in hybrid) model debuted back in September 2023, giving fans of the mid-size pickup that reside in certain global markets an electrified powertrain option. Shortly thereafter, we learned numerous details pertaining to that powertrain, as well as what trim levels it will be offered in and a handful of other interesting factoids. Order banks for the electrified pickup just opened up in The Netherlands roughly a month ago, and now, we’re learning how much the Ford Ranger PHEV will cost in Australia, too.
According to CarExpert, the base 2025 Ford Ranger PHEV XLT will start out at $71,990 – $3,150 more than the turbocharged V6 diesel equivalent, as well as $8,350 more than the bi-turbo four-cylinder pickup. The Ranger PHEV Sport starts at $75,990, which is $4,650 more than the V6 diesel and $9,850 pricier than the bi-turbo, and the Wildtrak has an MSRP of $79,990 – $5,150 more than the V6 diesel, and $10,350 more expensive than the bi-turbo. Finally, the range-topping Stormtrak PHEV starts out at $86,990, just a smidge less than the Ranger Raptor at $90,440.
All of these plug-ins are subjected to a five percent import duty due to the fact that they’re produced in South Africa, while others – built in Thailand, which has a Free Trade Agreement with Australia – are not. The 2025 Ford Ranger PHEV is slated to launch in Australia in mid-2025, and pairs the existing, gas-powered, turbocharged 2.3L I-4 EcoBoost engine with a 75kW electric motor and an 11.8kWh battery pack to provide a targeted 45 kilometers (28 miles) of all-electric driving range and 3,500 kilograms (7,716 pounds) of max towing capacity, as well as deliver 279 PS (275 horsepower) and 690 Nm of torque (509 pound-feet), though those figures may vary by market.
A new Modular Hybrid Transmission (MHT) resides in between that engine and the 10-speed automatic transmission, while the traction battery is packaged between specially engineered frame rails. On top of that, Pro Power Onboard provides up to 6.9 kW of portable power as well.
