The Polish Border Patrol task force has bolstered its fleet with over 100 Ford Pro commercial vehicles, including 49 units of the Ford Transit and 60 units of the Ford Transit Custom.
Each Ford Transit van has been specially fitted with three secure zones inside with seating for up to four detainees at a time, along with two escorts, along with the driver and convoy commander. Each detainee compartment is fitted with two double seats and safety belts. The interiors have been equipped with damage-resistant composite for the safety of agents and detainees. Further modifications include the addition of bars that separate the detainee compartment from the escort area, and they are connected by a deposit window and a door with a grille.
Meanwhile, the Ford Transit Custom vans have been specially modified as well. Each of these vehicles is equipped to deal with the transport of two detainees. They also feature an interior fitted with a special damage resistant composite material.
Both the Ford Transit and Transit Custom vehicles feature a distinct livery with prominent “Border Guard” signage outside. They also feature LED lightbars atop their roofs.
The addition of the Ford Transit vans to the Polish Border Guard fleet underscores Ford Europe’s commitment to its commercial customers in the region. The automaker has been downsizing its passenger vehicle business to better answer declining demand in that area, refocusing its efforts on its Ford Pro division instead.
As a reminder, the all-new Ford Transit Custom debuted for the European market in late 2023. There are a number of powertrains on offer, including the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), which pairs a 2.5L Atkinson cycle gasoline engine with a 11.8 kWh battery, delivering an all-electric driving range of 57 km. There’s also a diesel engine offered in 110 PS, 136 PS, 150 PS and 170 PS variants, which can be mated to a six-speed manual transmission or eight-speed automatic.
