Ford BlueOval Battery Park Michigan has been under construction for some time now, and in spite of facing a few challenges along the way, it remains on track to begin producing lithium-iron phosphate batteries using technology licensed from CATL in 2026. In recent months, the future EV plant has celebrated numerous milestones along that journey, and now, it has completed another important one, as the wholly owned subsidiary of Ford, BlueOval Battery Michigan LLC, has officially taken ownership of the land that it resides on.
According to WWMT News, the Marshall Area Economic Development Alliance (MAEDA) has transferred around 500 acres of land where BlueOval Battery Park Michigan is located to the subsidiary, where the final steel beam was just put in place this past December. After it begins building batteries next year, the plant will create around 1,700 jobs and provide around $2 million in annual revenue to the town of Marshall.
“Ford has been an incredible neighbor and community partner, supporting dozens of programs and services across the region,” said James Durian, CEO of MAEDA. “We’re excited to see progress on this project that has already created hundreds of local construction jobs in and around the Marshall Area Jobs, Opportunity, and Recreation (MAJOR) Campus, adding to foot traffic for our local restaurants, area shops, and small businesses.” “This is another positive signal that we are on track to begin production in 2026, and we are continuing to hire so that we can build the best possible team to lead this advanced manufacturing facility,” added Scott Davis, CEO of BlueOval Battery Michigan LLC.
When BlueOval Battery Park Michigan was first announced, Ford planned to invest $3.5 billion in the site and create 2,500 jobs by March 2027, which is what the state’s incentive package was based on. However, amid declining demand for EVs, Ford later downsized those plans to a $2.5 billion investment and the creation of 1,700 jobs by March 2028, which resulted in the Michigan Strategic Fund board slashing the automaker’s incentive package in half, as Ford Authority previously reported.
