After getting off to a hot start, Ford EV sales have since cooled somewhat, though they continue to grow, regardless. The same can’t really be said in Europe – at least, as it pertains to specific models like the Explorer EV and Capri EV – both riding on Volkswagen’s MEB platform – which Ford previously cut production of at the Cologne Electric Vehicle Center in Germany due to weak demand. However, Ford CEO Jim Farley doesn’t seem to be too concerned about that development, and he has a much brighter outlook on EV production throughout the course of 2025, in general.
“Well, first of all we’re doubling our EV volume this year, so that’s maybe not so clear to everyone,” Farley stated at the recent Wolfe Research Auto, Auto Tech, and Semiconductor Conference. “We still have a vibrant business in Europe, the Puma electric’s coming out. We have the MEB products scaling for a full year so well, we’re going to go from 100,000 to 250,000 to 260,000 EVs. So we have a lot of growth but it’s not in America so it’s not as obvious to investors.”
Despite slow demand for the Explorer and Capri EV models, the new Puma Gen-E sports a low price tag and is based on one of that region’s best-selling models, which could make it more appealing in Europe. Mass production of that model is already underway, which was previously the case for the MEB twins, too, until demand dictated that the automaker dial it back a tad.
Regardless, Farley previously admitted that Ford’s partnership with Volkswagen has taught it a lot in terms of how to scale EV production, so perhaps the Puma Gen-E will muster up enough demand to justify such a move. In the meantime, the automaker continues to struggle with weak EV demand and slowing passenger vehicle sales in Europe, with its German unit recently getting a $5 billion dollar investment to cover its massive debt.

They can build all they want, selling them is another issue.
Agreed!
Europe won’t be buying your cars anymore – Donald Trump has permanently killed Ford…
Won’t be long before the Tesla effect unfolds in the US car makers…
Keep the EVs over in Europe, if you must make a bunch of them.
Europeans are not buying the EVs already being built in Europe, hence all the production cuts and cancelled platforms. How is the EV market vibrant? For that matter, how does Farley see any of Ford’s products produced in Europe as being vibrant? Ford sales of everything in Europe is tanking to the tune of needing to send $5 billion to it’s German plants to cover debt.
Ahahahahaha this guy is liar dreamer, in Europe EVs sells are falling down, how this creepy CEO is still in this position ???? Go to podcasts business where you really have talent …
Stupidity is far more powerful and enduring than AI.
How long do we have to wait for a Gen-E in the USA?
Jim is clearly out of touch with the customer.
People don’t want EV’s. Wont be long before Ford are bankrupt.
