Sometimes, the hardest part of driving isn’t the road or its conditions. It’s other drivers. Some motorists act like they’re the only ones on the road and might even pretend that’s the case – and we can only imagine that’s exactly what was going through the head of one driver of a Ford Explorer, who managed to sideswipe another vehicle in a bizarre move in New York City.
The incident was caught on dashcam, making the rounds on the r/IdiotsInCars Reddit community. The original poster says that the crash happened in the early hours of the morning on March 17th, 2025. A black Ford Explorer – which hails from the 2011 to 2019 model year – is traveling to the cammer’s right, right next to another vehicle just ahead of the cammer. The Explorer appears to be exiting onto a different street on the Manhattan side of the Lincoln Tunnel, but has second thoughts at the last possible second.
The Ford Explorer stands on the brake before swerving back onto the “correct” street. Unfortunately, that puts them right in the path of the other motorist. There’s little they can do to avoid the Explorer, and the two vehicles make contact. It’s a serious sideswipe, undoubtedly causing damage to both vehicles in the process.
At least the Explorer pulls over, hopefully intending to provide their insurance information to the unfortunate driver they collided with. Lesson learned – always check your mirrors even if you think you’re the only one on the road, because you just might not be. The cammer says that there were a fair number of cops in the immediate area, and that they immediately attended to the scene of the accident.
New York City can be a hazardous place to drive – or just to walk. Last year, a Ford Taurus purposefully attempted to hit a pedestrian in the city, giving chase to the person even as they took off running.
