Ford Explorer Recalled In Vietnam Over A-Pillar Trim Detachments

Back in January 2024, The Blue Oval issued a recall for a whopping 1,889,110 2011-2019 Ford Explorer models over an issue with some of its trim pieces. The problem stemmed from the A-pillar trim retention clips, which may not be properly engaged, allowing the trim to detach from the vehicle, which could certainly lead to a road hazard and increase the risk that a crash may occur. Luckily, the fix for this problem is a simple one – Ford instructed dealers to inspect and replace the A-pillar trim as necessary, free of charge. Now, select Ford Explorer models in Vietnam are being recalled for the same thing.

According to The Azerbaijan State News Agency, The Blue Oval is now recalling 4,142 Ford Explorer SUVs produced between May 17, 2010 and March 3, 2019, due to the fact that the A-pillar trim on those vehicles may not be properly secured. This can lead to the trim pieces becoming loose or even detaching from the vehicle while it’s in motion, which could pose a hazard to others on the road.

The problem was once again caused by problems during the assembly process that led to improperly engaged A-pillar trim retention clips, which makes sense given the fact that the SUVs were produced at the the Chicago Assembly plant in the U.S. and exported to Vietnam. The automaker also notes that the issue could arise following windshield repairs, as that process would involve removing and reinstalling trim pieces as well.

Regardless, impacted Ford Explorer owners in Vietnam can take their vehicles to dealers to have their A-pillar trim inspected and replaced if needed, free of charge, and the program is slated to run through early 2030, giving them plenty of time to do so. That process takes around 1.5 hours, and the automaker notes that even vehicles that were imported to Vietnam yet weren’t sold through an official Blue Oval dealer also qualify for this repair.

  1. You’d think just a little more glue might hold it in place. Ha HA.
It was about 10 years ago, I had a A pillar trim piece fly off an Explorer I was driving.
Amazing that they still can’t get it right.
