Ford Explorer Tremor Officially Teased Ahead Of Reveal

The Ford Explorer Timberline debuted for the 2021 model year as a more off-road-focused version of the long-running model, equipped with some real, functional upgrades, as well as unique styling cues to differentiate it from the rest of the lineup. As Ford Authority previously reported, The Blue Oval opted to go with the Timberline name for these special Explorer and Expedition variants rather than Tremor because it wanted to differentiate its more rugged SUVs from pickups of the same type. However, we’ve known for some time that the Ford Explorer Tremor is set to replace the old Timberline, and now, the automaker has teased this new model for the very first time.

In this post on X, Ford CEO Jim Farley is showing us an official photo of the new Ford Explorer Tremor for the first time, adding the teaser – “Coming soon. A new addition to the TREMOR Family.” The Ford Explorer Tremor will arrive some time after the refreshed version of the SUV, which landed on dealer lots last summer. Regardless, we’ve known for some time that the old Timberline would be replaced by the Tremor as Ford looks to streamline its nameplates somewhat across the lineup. This past October, Ford Authority also spotted the Ford Explorer Tremor out testing for the first time, previewing some of its unique features.

As far as what we can expect from the new Ford Explorer Tremor, well, it should follow a very similar formula to the Timberline, at least. That means unique wheels and exterior styling elements coupled with meatier tires, skid plates, specially-tuned shocks and struts, and potentially the Torsen limited-slip differential. We also expect to see some blacked-out exterior styling elements, along with the requisite Tremor badging, orange accents, and some unique interior features as well.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.

  6. Ruining another badge just to try and steal some sales and likely bump the price. Farley is a clown. Calling it a Tremor when all it will be is a re-badged Timberline is insanity. I mean, it’s not as tacky as ST-Line, but you get the point.
