Ford Extends Partnership With Detroit Lions

Given the fact that the Ford family owns the Detroit Lions – and both of them are based out of that same part of the country – it’s no surprise that the automaker and the NFL team have shared some moments together over the years. That partnership has intensified as of late, with the Lions finally enjoying some success and making the playoffs after years of disappointing results on the field. Thus, Ford Motor Company has opted to extend its relationship with the Detroit Lions yet again.

The Blue Oval has announced that it has extended its naming rights partnership for Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions, which first began in 2002 when the team relocated to downtown Detroit. Since that partnership began, Ford Field has helped rejuvenate the surrounding area, bringing in millions of visitors and money to boost the local economy. The Ford Field naming rights partnership is already the second-longest lasting in the NFL, and now, it will continue for an as-of-now undisclosed period of time.

In addition to Detroit Lions games, Ford Field hosts and has hosted other major events including various concerts, Super Bowl XL, the NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four, and the NCAA Frozen Four – the latter of which it will once again play host to in 2027. Following the team’s most recent NFC Championship Game appearance, Ford lit up the sky near Michigan Central Station with a Lions logo, and for the 2024 season, that team also wore uniforms partially inspired by the sixth-generation Ford Bronco, as well as the Ford Mustang, by taking a more classic approach to their design.

Ford CEO Jim Farley himself has been seen in attendance at numerous Detroit Lions games in recent years, and a group of Michigan dealers also went so far as to create and sell a special Detroit Lions Edition Ford F-150, too.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
