Ford Trucks – The Blue Oval’s heavy commercial brand – produces a range of vehicles such as tractors, construction trucks, and distribution trucks weighing over 16 tons, including the ever-popular Ford F-Max. That entity currently operates across a variety of regions including parts of Europe, the Middle East, Africa, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), and Switzerland, and continues to forge new partnerships amid its ongoing expansion. Now, a number of Ford F-Max trucks are heading to a new, internal fleet, too.
A group of 35 Ford F-Max trucks has officially been delivered by Bernhard Kerscher, managing partner of F-Trucks Germany, to The Blue Oval itself at its Cologne Electric Vehicle Center, with 15 more scheduled to join them soon. The Ford F-Max is produced by the joint-venture Ford Otosan, which partnered with F-Trucks Germany – its official importer – to deliver the new models, which present a big upgrade on the plant’s aging fleet.
The Ford F-Max will be used to transport goods within the Cologne plant, as well as to the loading port in Vlissingen/Netherlands. There, the Explorer EV and Capri EV will be loaded onto Ford’s own ferries for transport to dealers. According to the automaker, the F-Max is more efficient and has far more modern tech features compared to its older fleet, and in this case, Ford Otosan was able to provide it with some specific upgrades, too.
Those include a a trailer interior height of three meters, a saddle height of 940 millimeters, special tires, and a special lifting saddle, which Ford Otosan was able to create in a mere 12 months, from development to actual production. Ford Transport Operations, the transport department for Blue Oval plants in the area, has a total of 50 tractors and is responsible for all factory-owned transports, covering over one million kilometers on the road every year.

A cabover? Ford hasn’t built cabovers for decades. But, then again, Europe has overall length restrictions that North America doesn’t have.
