Shortly after taking office in January, President Donald Trump began discussing the topic of implementing tariffs on a broad array of imported goods, with an extra 10 percent levy being applied for Chinese goods one month ago – impacting the Lincoln Nautilus, which is produced in that country and then sold in the U.S. Trump also planned on slapping tariffs on goods imported from Mexico and Canada, but wound up delaying those for 30 days after both countries agreed to take action to address concerns over the flow of drugs and illegal immigrants entering the U.S. from both places. Now, those tariffs have officially taken effect.
According to the Associated Press, Trump tariffs on Mexico and Canada have indeed taken effect as of today, which add a 25 percent levy to goods coming from those countries, as well as 10 percent on Canadian energy products. The move figures to impact The Blue Oval in a variety of ways, particularly, since it produces the Ford Maverick, Ford Bronco Sport, and Ford Mustang Mach-E in Mexico and imports them into the U.S., not to mention parts and various other components that come from those countries. Trump also plans on implementing a 25 percent tariff on all automobiles imported into the U.S. by April 2nd, along with reciprocal levies, which are aimed at leveling the global trading field.
Ford CEO Jim Farley originally called for more comprehensive tariffs and stated that these actions are causing “chaos” in the industry – adding that potential Mexico tariffs could “blow a hole in the U.S. industry that we’ve never seen.” However, the exec later paid a visit to Capitol Hill to discuss these matters with the Trump administration. Following that visit, Farley voiced his support for Trump’s plan to place tariffs on all imported automobiles. Regardless, some Ford factory workers remain concerned about the potential impacts these levies may have on their jobs, though it’s possible that the tariffs may actually help boost American automotive production, in general.
For now at least, Ford hasn’t revealed how it plans to adjust its strategy to compensate for these tariffs, if it takes action at all. However, several other automakers have announced plans to shift production to the U.S. as a result of these new tariffs. Volkswagen recently stated that it will add more vehicle production to its plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and added that it may also build Audi and Porsche models in the U.S. for the first time as well. Currently, all Porsche models are built in Germany, while Audi has a factory in Mexico in addition to Europe. Another recent report indicates that Honda is thinking about building the next-generation Civic in the U.S. because of tariffs, rather than Mexico, as previously planned.

Tariffs are a money grab to subsidize tax breaks for the top 1% !
Interesting slogan; I assume your listening to AOC again? Would to care to explain the facts behind this DNC bullet point? The US tax code hasn’t changed since the Democrats updated it during the Biden Administration. So if the if the 1% are getting tax breaks you can thank Joe and insider trading Nancy Pelosi.
What a ridiculous claim.
I told the sales manager I would not be taking my new Ford Maverick Lariat order, if these tariffs and associated price increases came through. Certainly looks like that’s going to be the case and can only believe I’d not be alone here. What a disaster amongst a myriad of other disasters he’s created/creating. Bravo!
Maybe you should consider an F-150, it’s a better truck anyway.
I don’t think he is interested in a full size truck otherwise he would have bought one. RS could look at the Hyundai Santa Cruz which is made in the US. When I ordered my 2022 Maverick it was to downsize to a smaller truck if not a Maverick I would have bought a Santa Cruz.
Yes, Jeffrey, you’re correct in that I have definitely looked at the Santa Cruz but ultimately did get a ‘23 Maverick hybrid. Was looking to upgrade to the ‘25 AWD hybrid (and now would give that Santa Cruz a longer look-just wish there was a hybrid). I like 40ish mpg.
Trump is destroying America.
And what do call what the Biden administration did to the United States, you noticed I sad “administration” as Joe wasn’t really running the country. You can thank Trump later for saving you job by stopping illegal immigrants (replacement workers) and importing jobs back to America via tariffs. Companies are going build where it’s cheepest regardless of politics.
Thank goodness you are not a federal employee because if you were, you would be out of a job.
How long have you been in the cult? Your posts here are pure MAGA garbage.
President Biden my dear friend not only brought back our allies to looking up to us again he also got the infrastructure bill bipartisan I might add. The chip’s act done and created alot more jobs then were lost during the covid pandemic. But some people are to busy listening to fox news and tucker carlson to care about truth…
Don’t forget: Mustang GTD is caught up in this mess too. Tariff impact here is approximately $ 100,000.
How, the Ford Mustang GTD is built in Flat Rock, Michigan!
GTD is built in Markham, Ontario by Multimac, where the GT was also hand assembled.
The thinking is that Trump wants to force early renegotiation of NAFTA2/USMCA which wasn’t due to expire until 2026, but he’s also said he wants to raise revenue for the Government so I think it’s likely both of these things are the objective.
It also helps the Oligarch cash in on the market crashes since they have an inside line on Trump moves.
Everybody but you knew the Ford Mustang GTD is being built in Canada, you must get your information from an unreliable source.
The GTD is hand assembled by Multimac in Markham, Ontario.
So let’s keep exporting manufacturing and jobs out of the country?
It was ok when all the American factory and energy workers lost their jobs?
it’s sad when you don’t know how global economy works. parts are made all over the world. The US is not the center of the universe. Step out of that bubble you are living in.
That’s all a byproduct of leaving this all to a free market. I personally have no issue with leaving the free market to be free. The government shouldn’t be interfering with the markets. If American made products want to compete, as they should, THEY, not the government, need to provide consumers, manufacturers, and distributers, reason to buy “Made in the US” products.
Trump signed the best most beautiful trade deal back in 2020. This is not how its done and now started a “war”
