Ford Maverick Rear Camera Recall Fix Released To Dealers

Back in September 2024, The Blue Oval recalled 144,516 different 2022-2024 Ford Maverick pickups over an issue with frozen rearview camera images. In affected vehicles equipped with Connected Touch Radios (CTR), the rearview camera image may freeze when the vehicle is in reverse, which can reduce the driver’s rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. At that time, Ford instructed dealers to update the Connected Touch Radio software, free of charge, and now, the fix has been released and is ready for installation.

This news comes to us via a member of the Maverick Truck Club, who recently posted some information pertaining to that topic. According to Ford’s own release, dealers will update the Audio Control Module (ACM), a process that takes between an hour to two hours. The ACM is the Ford Connected Audio infotainment unit, which is what displays the backup camera video, since these particular models didn’t come equipped with SYNC from the factory. As such, the software for the infotainment screen is present in the ACM.

As Ford Authority previously reported, this particular recall pertains to select 2022-2024 Ford Maverick models equipped the Connected Touch Radio (CTR) that were produced at the Hermosillo Assembly Plant between February 3rd, 2021, and November 28th, 2023.

The problem itself stems from improper memory handling within the CTR software, which is causing a component in the end-to-end RVC image processing path to fail. As a result, owners may experience a frozen rearview camera image while the pickup is in reverse, which can result in a false representation of where the vehicle is located relative to its surroundings. After it received notice that this was a problem with a handful of 2022 Ford Maverick pickups, FoMoCo proceeded to investigate the issue and came up with an updated version of that software – G2.2 – in which it has thus far been unable to replicate the problem.
