Ford Rival GM Partners With NVIDIA For AI

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a hot topic in recent months, but the truth is, many companies began leaning on that type of technology years ago. In fact, Ford has been using AI to speed up its production lines for several years to this point, and that tech also played a big role in the development of its new Digital Experience infotainment software, developed in conjunction with Google. Now, Ford’s cross-town rival, General Motors, is partnering with NVIDIA as it works to expand its own use of AI.

According to GM Authority, the automaker is expanding its existing relationship with NVIDIA in an effort to integrate AI into its vehicle development and manufacturing processes, in fact. As is the case with Ford, GM is aiming to lean on AI to help make its production process more efficient, as well as develop better safety features and smart technologies. In the longer term, GM wants to utilize AI more in its autonomous driving technology, too.

At the moment, GM uses the NVIDIA Omniverse and NVIDIA Cosmos platforms to create virtual models of its assembly lines, which gives the company the ability to test out new processes and work out any kinks before rolling out them out in actual plants. This is a solid way to reduce downtime, save on costs, and improve efficiency, but that isn’t the only way AI is helping out in that regard. Rather, GM will also use AI-enabled robots to perform tasks such as welding, transport, and material handling. Finally, NVIDIA DRIVE AGX will be used to help improve the automaker’s advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).

“GM has enjoyed a longstanding partnership with NVIDIA, leveraging its GPUs across our operations,” said General Motors CEO Mary Barra. “AI not only optimizes manufacturing processes and accelerates virtual testing but also helps us build smarter vehicles while empowering our workforce to focus on craftsmanship. By merging technology with human ingenuity, we unlock new levels of innovation in vehicle manufacturing and beyond.”

  1. When I had an AMD CPU/GPU my PC crashed every day. Drove me nuts. Never trust AMD for anything. I have NVIDIA GPU / Intel CPU today and like magic my PC is reliable without crashes. You would have to be a moron to choose anything other than NVIDIA.
