The automotive industry has certainly faced its fair share of challenges in recent years, and Ford isn’t immune to them, either. Rather, The Blue Oval has been dealing with everything from supply chain issues to initial quality woes to various macroeconomics events and uncertainties, but it continues to post strong results, regardless. In fact, Ford managed to eke out a four percent sales increase in the U.S. last year, moving over two million vehicles in that country alone. On top of that, Ford also closed out 2024 as the third best-selling automotive brand across the entire globe, too.

According to new data from Felipe Munoz of JATO Dynamics, Ford sold 4,292,000 vehicles in total last year – a one percent year-over-year increase, which ranks it behind only Toyota and Volkswagen. Ford managed to hold onto the third spot this past year once again even as it suffered major losses in Europe, South America, and China, largely thanks to its strong performance in markets like North America and Australia. However, BYD is nipping at The Blue Oval’s heels after moving up from the tenth spot last year to fourth in 2024, with the fast-growing Chinese automaker selling 4,085,536 vehicles – a significant 41 percent increase.
This news is also notable given the fact that many analysts expected BYD to outsell both Ford and Honda in 2024, though it ultimately only managed to best the latter. Regardless, given these trends, it wouldn’t be terribly surprising to see the Chinese rival overtake The Blue Oval in 2025. Making this feat even more impressive is the fact that BYD isn’t currently present in too many markets outside of China, save for places like Mexico and Europe. It previously planned to enter Canada as well, but that country imposed stiff tariffs designed to prevent that from happening, much like the U.S.

This is news that Trump does not care about. Even if Ford builds vehicles in Mexico (which is American anyway), the profits return to Ford in the U.S. What he should be chasing against are the imports from Asia and Europe!
