The Blue Oval’s grip on the commercial van market in the UK is as strong as ever – in fact, the Ford Transit Custom continued its dominance in the UK in February 2025, topping the charts as the best-selling van in the region once again last month.
The latest figures from Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show the Ford Transit Custom on top of light cargo vehicle (LCV) and van sales charts, moving 2,361 units last month. It bested the Vauxhall Vivaro’s 1,331 sales – which itself leapfrogged the Ford Transit (1,154 sales) and the Ford Ranger (1,041 sales) to become the runner-up competitor.
Even though it caught up last month, the Vivaro has a long way to go to cut into the Ford Transit Custom lead, sitting solidly in fourth place in terms of year-to-date sales. So far in 2025, the Transit Custom has sold 5,089 units, in sole possession of first place, followed by the Transit (2,889), the Ranger (2,846) and the Vivaro (2,101).
Overall, the LCV market in the UK took a nosedive in February 2025. Demand fell by 19.3 percent with just 14,476 units sold during February. That makes it the third consecutive month in which sales declined, representing the segment’s worst performance since 2020. The sale of medium vans slipped 33 percent (2,119 sales), larger vans dropped 19 percent (9,962), while 4X4s and pickups experienced a 45.7 and 4.8 percent slide, respectively. Small vans experienced the only positive growth in the segment, increasing 55.9 percent to 427 units.
However, the broad decline is not entirely unexpected, considering that February is typically a slower month as buyers often hold out on buying a new van until the new March number plate arrives.
As a reminder, the Ford Transit Custom was the best-selling van and LCV in the UK in the entirety of 2023 and 2024, also posting strong results in December. The Blue Oval will continue to rally support behind the Ford Transit Custom – which CEO Jim Farley refers to as the “Super Duty of Europe” – as the automaker continues to strengthen its commercial lineup overseas.
