Ford Transit Family Officially Electrified In Europe

While demand for Ford’s retail-focused electric vehicles has lagged behind expected levels in Europe, that isn’t the case with the commercial-oriented Ford Pro business. Rather, that lineup continues to expand and gain traction in Europe, as many fleet customers have found that EV vans, specifically, have a lot to offer in terms of lower operating costs. Now, the entire Ford Transit family has officially been electrified in Europe, a big milestone for The Blue Oval in a market that it has faced its fair share of struggles in as of late.

As Ford Authority reported last week, the E-Tourneo Courier and E‑Transit Courier just entered full-scale production at the joint-venture Ford Otosan Craiova Assembly plant in Romania, some time after those models made their official debuts. Those all-electric vans join a full lineup of electrified Ford Transit models including the recently-updated E-Transit, the E-Transit Custom and Transit Custom PHEV, as well as the Transit Connect PHEV to round things out.

As Ford Authority recently reported, FoMoCo CEO Jim Farley intends to double the company’s EV production this year, largely based on this growth in Europe. Despite slow demand for the Explorer and Capri EV models, the new Puma Gen-E sports a low price tag and is based on one of that region’s best-selling models, which could make it more appealing in Europe, in addition to the company’s electrified Ford Pro products.

“The shift to electric vans is a step-change for businesses across Europe – but one that offers huge potential to boost productivity, maximize uptime and reduce running costs whether you’re a sole trader or operating a fleet of thousands,” said Hans Schep, general manager, Ford Pro, Europe. “Our role as Europe’s leading commercial vehicle brand is to be a one-stop shop for the vehicles, software and supporting services that can make that transition seamless and help hard-working businesses get more done. With our electrified Transit family and connected Ford Pro ecosystem, we’re already delivering for our customers.”
