Tracking down a stolen vehicle can be an incredibly frustrating and often impossible task, leaving owners with little hope of recovery. That’s where Ford Pro Telematics comes in. This software system helps business fleets with a suite of useful tech, including GPS tracking. The system helped one Ford Transit owner in the UK track down his stolen van – an incredible recovery, given that the van was loaded with an expensive pop-up bar.
Lewis Spindlove relies on his Ford Transit to transport his gold pop-up bar, valued at £15,000. Unfortunately, that van was nicked by thieves near his home in Bristol, UK, the day he was contracted to serve drinks at a wedding. Faced with the uncertainty of potentially losing a major part of his business, Spindlove reported the theft to local police.
That was when Ford Pro stepped in. Using the Ford Pro Telematics system, they were able to track the van’s precise location. The stolen Ford Transit turned up in Nottingham, some hundreds of kilometers away. Police were dispatched and managed to recover the van and its contents, returning it to Spindlove’s care. Spindlove made necessary repairs and the van was up and running like normal within two weeks of being taken.
“The bride and groom had ordered a bespoke bar complete with gold mirrors and bar tops. It absolutely looked the business, but when I came to drive to the venue the van was gone,” Spindlove said of the incident. “I was so relieved that my Transit has a built-in tracker that played a key role in me getting my van back.”
European Ford owners also have access to the Ford Stolen Vehicles Services alert system, which is a suite of software integrated into the FordPass app. This system enables owners to quickly and securely initiate communications with a 24/7 call center, allowing them to disable certain features on the stolen vehicle to make it more difficult to get away with. The 2024 Ford F-150 is covered under a similar system in the U.S. as well, helping owners track down their pickups in the event of a theft.
