Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a vehicle control with sun glare system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on September 14th, 2023, published on March 20th, 2025, and assigned serial number 0091534.
The Ford Authority Take
Sun glare is one of those things that anyone who’s been driving for a while has dealt with on more than one occasion, and in some cases, it can be downright dangerous. However, aside from the ages-old visors that we can use to combat this, there aren’t many other ways to effectively deal with sun glare. Ford has explored a few potential solutions via recent patent filings for a sun tracking and protection system, as well as an augmented reality system that combats sun glare, however, and now, it has published this new patent outlining an idea for a vehicle control with sun glare system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, too.
In this patent, Ford is exploring ways to use optical sensors – such as those used in cameras – to help control the presence of sun glare in a vehicle. The system itself would receive data from those sensors and be able to predict how sunlight affects one’s field of view, particularly, when it is reflected off surrounding objects. From there, the system would be able to make adjustments to compensate – even moving the vehicle to reduce the impact of sun glare, in fact.
“Submitting patent applications is a normal part of any strong business as the process protects new ideas and helps us build a robust portfolio of intellectual property,” Ford said in a statement. “The ideas described within a patent application should not be viewed as an indication of our business or product plans. No matter what the patent application outlines, we will always put the customer first in the decision-making behind the development and marketing of new products and services.”
