Lincoln Rival Cadillac Will Ditch Gasoline Powered Sedans

It wasn’t that long ago that we were awaiting the arrival of several new Lincoln EVs, but the brand has since shifted away from electrification amid slowing demand. Even though it sells sedans in other parts of the world – and its U.S. dealers have been asking for one there – Lincoln also fields a lineup of nothing but crossovers and SUVs, regardless. Meanwhile, Lincoln’s rival, Cadillac, continues to sell both sedans and EVs, though soon, its customers won’t be able to purchase an ICE version of those passenger cars, it seems.

According to GM Authority, General Motors doesn’t currently have plans to offer a new generation of the Cadillac CT4 and CT5 with an internal combustion engine. It remains possible that Cadillac will continue to sell new four-door sedans in the future, even after the existing CT4 and CT5 are discontinued, but they’ll reportedly only be sold with all-electric powertrains – not ICE.

At the moment Cadillac is reportedly working on a pair of EV-powered sedans, which are expected to be around the same size as the current ICE CT5 and CT6. However, they may take on more of sportback design, rather than a traditional three-box sedan profile. Both are also expected to ride on the new BEV Prime, which could be a more premium version of the BEV3 architecture utilized in the Chevy Blazer EV, Cadillac Lyriq, and various other models.

We already knew that Cadillac was laser-focused on EVs – it isn’t planning on offering plug-in hybrids as a stair step option – but this is just the latest example of how vested the luxury brand is in that regard. Cadillac is also in the midst of some major lineup shifts, with plans to discontinue the XT5 and XT6 in North America after the conclusion of the 2025 model year, though both will live on in China. Additionally, the XT4 has been nixed, too.

  6. I would suggest that Caddy has NOT read the room!! Especially with the Chosen One’s clearly stated goal of eliminating EV charging stations. Hybrids are a much better choice.

  8. Great news for Cadillac’s rivals who will continue to produce ICE sedans, this strategy will all but will guarantee Cadillac sales to fall below 100,000/year. Has Cadillac sold any of its ugly $340,000+ Hearse Mobile?

  10. Bye bye Cadillac, that’s a shame, they build great cars, SUV’s not so much. Lincoln will continue to dominate in the US, as an American manufacturer. Cadillac is getting killed by imports, unlike Lincoln.

  11. Whatever happened to customer service and quality? EVs don’t work because of this lack of quality and customer service because the elitist fools, useful idiots,, who have taken over everything and shut everyone else out who has any talent. They think they can just pump out garbage, rip people off blind and shove it down everyone’s throat. Very stupid. ICE vehicles are also going down the rules. But decisions like this prove that there are conspiracies that good folks should be aware of. Decisions like this mean they don’t give a rats behind what their customers actually want and there is a bunch of stupid bullies behind it who are hiding in some dark chamber. Good bye! Better go back to school and learn some actual wisdom and hopefully learn what life is about. Maybe Universities will actually start teaching valuable things instead of this nonsense. Climate change my A##! Give us what we want or get lost. There are people out there who know how to do business and have takwnt but never get the chance. Now we have a bunch of fools running things.
