Oldest NASCAR Ford Team Gets Breakthrough Win At Las Vegas

Wood Brothers Racing (WBR), the oldest active team in stock car racing history, had plenty to celebrate after the Cup Series race at Las Vegas on March 16th, 2025. Josh Berry drove the iconic No. 21 Ford Mustang Dark Horse to Victory Lane for the first time since joining WBR this season – and for the first time in his Cup Series career.

WBR has been active since 1953, and Berry is the organization’s fourth straight driver to earn their first victory in the No. 21 NASCAR Ford. Berry held off a hard-charging Daniel Suarez to make it happen, keeping the No. 99 Chevy in his rearview as the laps ticked down. When the checkers fell, Berry was 1.358 seconds ahead of Suarez.

Berry and Suarez started alongside each other on the front row after a brief caution on Lap 249 of 267. Suarez lunged ahead and commanded the race for a few laps until Berry tracked him down. Once Berry cleared the No. 99 Chevy, he set sail, staying well ahead of the pack until the end of the race.

“Oh, man, I don’t even know what to think,” Berry said. “Just awesome. I love this track. Las Vegas has been so good to me. So many great moments here [in the Xfinity Series].”

He added, “Just struggled in the Next Gen car here. But (crew chief) Miles (Stanley) and this whole 21 team, everybody at Wood Brothers Racing, they gave me a great car today. Just battled and battled and battled. Man, it was our day. I just can’t believe it.”

With his victory, Berry ensures that WBR will make the postseason Playoffs, giving the team a shot at the overall championship.

Behind Berry and Suarez, Ryan Preece finished third in the No. 60 NASCAR Ford, followed by the Chevy racers of William Byron and Ross Chastain rounding out the top five. Joey Logano’s No. 22 Mustang led 40 laps while Austin Cindric’s No. 2 Mustang showed the way for 47; however, pit stop cycles relegated Cindric to sixth place and Logano to 15th.
