Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free highway driving assist feature has expanded quite rapidly since its launch back in 2021, and it continues to be offered in more and more models as time goes by. With subscriptions booming and BlueCruise proving to be incredibly profitable for FoMoCo itself, we’re also watching as the software feature expands to a variety of global markets outside of the U.S. – including Spain. Now, Ford has recruited a new ambassador for BlueCruise in that very same country.
That ambassador is artistic swimming Olympic medalist Ona Carbonell, who made appearances in the games on three occasions between 2012-2020 – earning bronze and silver medals in 2012 at the London Olympics. Additionally, Carbonell secured 23 total medals in the World Swimming Championship between 2007 and 2019, as well as another 12 medals in the European Swimming Championship from 2008-2021. In 2022, she was one of a select few that made the BBC’s 100 Women list, too.
The concept behind this new collaboration is to make Carbonell the image of a technology that Ford believes is the future of driving, in general, as the two share “the values of innovation and excellence.” Carbonell also just so happens to have spent some time behind the wheel of a Ford Mustang Mach-E, racking up miles with BlueCruise activated, and she walked away rather impressed with that technology, it seems.
“As an athlete, I have always trusted in innovation and technology to improve my performance. With Ford BlueCruise, I find that same confidence on the road: it is a safe, intuitive system that allows me to enjoy the journey more,” Carbonell said. In Spain, BlueCruise was the first hands-free driving technology approved for use, and currently, “Blue Zones” cover more than 90 percent that country’s highways and national expressways, with plans to vastly expand in that regard over the coming years, as has been the case in the U.S. already.

Trying hard to understand this one. Why do you need an Ambassador ? Aren’t the owners going to talk about how cool it is?
Comparing the hands-free highway miles of Ford Blue Cruise (130,000 miles) to the miles of GM Super Cruise i(750,000 miles) t is clear that Ford does not need BlueCruise Ambassador. They urgently need to match the Super Cruise’s hands free miles. Otherwise their Blue Crise will perish.
Medalist yes but it certainly doesn’t hurt that she is beautiful too.
