As the granddaughter of off-road racing legend Rod Hall, Shelby Hall has certainly made a name for herself in that same realm over the past several years, many of which have been spent racing various Ford Bronco models for The Blue Oval. Over the past few years, Hall has racked up impressive finishes at the Rebelle Rally, and competed at that same event in the Ford Bronco Raptor this past year. Now, Hall is taking the next step by forming her own independent racing team set to compete in the upcoming NORRA Mexican 1000 in the Ford Bronco DR.
Hall’s new team is called SHO – Shelby Hall Off-Road – and is backed by LFI in Colorado. Hall will be joined behind the wheel by Brady Melin in their Ford Bronco DR sporting the iconic Stroppe livery, paying tribute to Bill Stroppe, whose “Baja Broncos” cemented the vehicle’s reputation for durability and performance in off-road racing decades ago. Stroppe’s collaboration with Ford led to numerous victories in the late 1960s and early 1970s, including the historic 1969 Mexican 1000 win with Rod Hall and Larry Minor behind the wheel.
The duo of Hall and Melin will certainly have their work cut out for them at this year’s NORRA Mexican 1000, which spans the Baja California peninsula and covers an array of rugged terrain. Hall is no stranger to this particular part of the world, as she and her grandfather competed in the Mexican 1000 in 2015 and 2016 behind the wheel of his own 1968 Bronco – scoring a second-place class finish in both of those outings.
“Racing is in my blood,” Hall said. “It’s an incredible feeling to launch my own team while carrying forward the traditions my grandfather established. The Mexican 1000 is where so much of our family history was written, and I’m honored to continue that legacy on these same challenging Baja trails. The Bronco and Stroppe legacy represents the perfect blend of manufacturer commitment and racing innovation. We’re proud to honor that heritage with our team’s approach, combining time-tested racing principles with modern technology and preparation.”
