Tim Burton, also know by his YouTube handle Shmee150, was one of the lucky few to get hands on the Ford GT sportscar. That Ford GT is fairly well-traveled, having driven across the contiguous U.S. before crossing the pond to head home to his collection. That U.S. trek wasn’t without trials and tribulations, however – he experienced some issues with his vehicle and rang up the bills during his journey, the cost of which he revealed in a recent video.
Burton finally picks up his Ford GT after it was shipped back to the UK, fresh off a full service at GT101, a dealership in England that specializes in the GT, as its name implies. Burton racked up almost 17,000 miles on his sportscar and needs some routine services, like some fluid changes, tires, and hydraulic hoses. The hydraulic hoses tend to begin weeping after a while thanks to the immense pressure they contain, necessitating repairs or outright replacement.
Burton points out that one of his concerns regarding the Ford GT is that it might get expensive to run long term. Barring any major issues, routine maintenance isn’t actually all that pricey on the sportscar, although parts are scarce in the UK. By the time it’s all said and done, Burton owes about £5,000 for the services, although it’s well worth the cost to get the vehicle in ship shape once again.
Burton hops in the Ford GT, and enjoying the nice weather, he guides it back to his home base. He says he’s going to give it a break for a little while, explaining that it feels far more special to drive it when it hasn’t been out for a while. That means he’s going to give some attention to other vehicles in his fleet and let the GT take a backseat for a minute.
One such vehicle could be his Ford Mustang Dark Horse. However, in true Shmee fashion, Burton has already had some trouble with the pony car, having to deal with a flat tire from a nail.
