The IMSA sanctioned Mustang Challenge offers FIA drivers with up to a silver rating the opportunity to compete on a level playing field, unleashed in a pack of Ford Mustang Dark Horse R race cars across international racing circuits. TechSport Racing, a team based out of Virginia, recently announced that it’s going to join the fray with a stable of three Mustang Dark Horse R race cars fulltime in 2025.
According to a report from Sportscar365, Colin Harrison and Devin Anderson will each drive a Mustang Dark Horse R in the series’ top class, while Alfonso Diaz has been confirmed for the Dark Horse Legends division.
“I am so excited to enter the IMSA paddock with Mustang Challenge,” said Kevin Anderson, owner of TechSport. “This car is incredible and perfectly suited for these drivers. We are coming into the season intent on podiums in both classes.”
Harrison began his racing career in a TCA Honda, and he’ll be racing in the Mustang Challenge while simultaneously competing in the McLaren Trophy America series. Anderson, meanwhile, cut his teeth in the Toyota GR Cup North America. He is the TechSport shop manager, giving him a leg up on the competition in the series. Finally, Diaz will race in his first-ever fulltime campaign this year after a successful debut in TechSport machinery at Indianapolis last year, winning his class in Race 2.
“I am excited to get back in the Mustang for the 2025 season,” Diaz said. “It is a powerful and dynamic machine which suits my driving style perfectly. I plan on hanging out at the podium frequently this year.”
Frankie Muniz, actor-turned-racer, will also compete in the Mustang Challenge this year in select races.
The Mustang Challenge was first introduced for the 2024 racing season, debuting the Mustang Dark Horse R for competition that same year. With a year’s worth of Mustang Challenge data to draw on, The Blue Oval made critical updates to the Dark Horse R racer, which features the 5.0L Coyote V8 engine, good for 500 horsepower and 418 pound-feet of torque.
