Ford V-10-Swapped Lincoln Continental Almost Ready To Roll: Video

YouTuber Build It Yourself rescued a Lincoln Continental that was far worse for wear. The crew went on to restore its exterior and then some, turning it into a V-10-powered beast – and the reborn sedan is almost ready to hit the road for the first time.

Video still of the V-10 swapped Lincoln Continental, shown with the body perched on a lift and the engine in the foreground. The custom build is the brainchild of Build It Yourself on YouTube.

It does need some elbow grease before it’s fully resurrected, though. It needs some work on the cooling system, and its front end is almost completely gone. They’ve already gotten the parts, but just need to find the time to slap them all together. However, just using standard Continental parts won’t cut it. Because this Lincoln Continental was modified to accept the V-10 powerhouse, the team had to get creative, and this involves cutting off part of the front bracket to make room for the cooling system.

The Lincoln Continental also needs some modifications to support the clutch system, along with the flywheel and clutch. It’s been fitted with the six-speed manual transmission lifted from the Ford Mustang, but after fabrications, the system fits like a glove. Other essentials include the mounting of the brake switch, the driveshaft, along with the fuel filter and breather; it also needs its differential and transmission fluid changed and its bolts checked before it’s put to the test on the road.

It’s a great feeling when they’re finally able to lower the body onto the engine and transmission, bolting it all together. Now, it’s more or less in one piece and only needs a few finishing touches before it’s roadworthy – but there’s also a long list of “wants,” too, so there’s a long way to go before this Lincoln Continental is fully restored and ready.

As for the finer details on this custom V-10 engine – it’s the 6.8L Ford Triton with four-valve (4V) Cobra heads. Ford never produced the V-10 in a 4V configuration, so Build It Yourself lived up to its name and took the project on for themselves. It’s similar in spirit – but not exactly – to the Coyote-powered Ford Fusion built by Hoonigan a few years ago.
