Long road trips can take a toll on the body. Even though you’re just sitting and driving, it’s not uncommon to feel stiff and sore by the time you get out. Ford has tackled this issue with its unique Multicontour seats, designed to cradle the driver, providing support and comfort on long-haul trips.
At their core, Ford’s Multicontour seats function as massaging seats, adding an extra layer of comfort for the driver. The tech has been around for quite some time and is currently offered on the 2025 Ford Expedition, Ford F-150, Ford Explorer, Ford Super Duty, and Ford F-150 Lightning on certain trims.
“Who hasn’t felt achy and fatigued after sitting in a car for a long time?” states the automaker’s description of the feature. “Now, with available Multicontour front seats with Active Motion, you don’t have to. This system helps reduce muscle-fatigue in your legs and lower back by using a subtle rolling-pattern massage.”
The Multicontour seats are designed to alleviate lower back and leg pain from long hours at the wheel, improving blood flow to the extremities when activated. The front seat can be set to provide a lumbar massage or cushion massage, which alters the contour of the seatback on its own throughout the drive, or can be set manually. This is controlled by a set of switches in the switch panel on the side of the seats, which also features buttons to set seat position. Once activated, the function will continue for 20 minutes before turning off automatically.
Additionally, Multicontour seats can be adjusted to provide static support throughout the drive, allowing the driver to manually adjust the seat to provide support in the desired areas.
Multicontour seats are available the 2025 Expedition Platinum Ultimate; the 2025 F-150 King Ranch, Platinum, and Platinum Plus; the 2025 Explorer ST and Platinum; the F-150 Lightning Platinum; along with the Ford Super Duty King Ranch and Platinum trims. Said seats are standard on all of the aforementioned models.
