Most of the time, collector car auction sites tend to focus on precisely that – collectible automobiles, or those built in larger quantities that are in nicer condition with lower miles, making them somewhat compelling for different types of people. However, from time to time, we also come across some pretty cool Ford related memorabilia listed for sale via online collector car sites, too. Now, that has happened yet again, this time, with a 1965 vintage Ford dealership sign that would look right at home in a Blue Oval fan’s office or garage.
This 1965 Ford dealership sign is set to be auctioned off at Mecum’s upcoming Indianapolis, Indiana sale in May, and it’s actually an original piece that came from the Yockey Friendly Ford dealership that’s still in operation today in Roselle, Illinois. It’s one of several pieces of automotive memorabilia being offered at Mecum Indy as part of the Yockey Streets of Yesterday Collection, too.
This particular dealer sign was originally put up at Yockey Friendly Ford in 1965, and it’s still in original, unrestored condition. It looks to be quite nice in terms of how well it’s been preserved, with a translucent front and one side broken out on purpose, which was apparently done to meet a Blue Oval requirement – at least, according to the auction listing. Otherwise, it’s a truly cool piece that has survived the past few decades and now deserves a comfy place to live for the foreseeable future.
This is just one of many pieces of Ford memorabilia that we’ve stumbled across at auction in recent months, a list that includes quite a few old signs, interestingly enough. That list includes a neon Ford service sign originally produced by Mulholland Sign Co. in Kalamazoo, Michigan, as well as an illuminated Blue Oval sign with an unknown history.
