Though it was discontinued for the second time not too long ago (not counting the GT40), the Ford GT remains a living legend, one that continues to only get more coveted and valuable with the passage of time. As such, we see plenty of Ford GT models from the first- and second-generations surfacing for sale at collector car auctions on a seemingly daily basis, and typically selling for big money, too. This 2005 Ford GT certainly seems likely to do exactly the same thing, given the fact that it has a mere 1k miles on the clock, too.
This particular 2005 Ford GT is currently up for auction at Bring a Trailer, and it’s in stellar condition as one of just 2,022 built in this particular model year. It’s one of 766 finished in Mark IV Red paint, along with optional over-the-top white stripes and Ford GT graphics, while the seller replaced the door seals in preparation for this sale. There are no flaws noted in the auction listing otherwise, and the car’s optional BBS forged lightweight aluminum wheels are still present, too.
Inside, one will find an Ebony interior with leather manually-adjustable Sparco seats with carbon-fiber shells, GT40-style ventilation grommets, and harness slots, plus rubber mats covering bare aluminum floors, the McIntosh CD stereo, and air conditioning. It’s powered by the mid-mounted, supercharged Ford 5.4L V8, which was factory-rated to produce 550 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque and is mated to the Ricardo six-speed manual transaxle and a helical limited-slip differential.
There was once a time when few folks wanted a first-generation Ford GT, and values were low, but that’s no longer the case – in fact, this one has already been bid up to $400,000 as of this writing. It should join a list of other high-dollar GTs hitting the auction block recently as well, which include a 4k-mile example with a stripe delete, as well as a preproduction model set to be sold later this month.
