These days, NASCAR fans have a seemingly endless supply of former race cars to bid on via various online collector car auctions, as those vehicles just keep coming out of the proverbial woodwork. This isn’t a huge surprise given that series’ enduring popularity, and it makes perfect sense that a fan might want to own the actual race car once piloted by their favorite driver. Now, they’re getting that chance once again, this time, via a 2005 Ford Taurus NASCAR racer that’s set to hit the auction block soon.
This #66 DuraFlame 2005 Ford Taurus race car is set to be auctioned off at Barrett-Jackson’s upcoming Palm Beach, Florida sale later this month, and it’s the real deal after having been driven by Greg Biffle in the NASCAR Busch Series in 2005. Biffle proceeded to record 21 top 10 finishes and rank tenth in overall points that same season, after which the Ford Taurus racer was retired and replaced.
Following the car’s retirement, DuraFlame fitted it with a fully-functioning grille (which has since been removed) and continued to use the Ford Taurus racer at a number of races and other events that it sponsored. Regardless, it retains the rest of the goodies it had when it was used in a competitive scenario via multiple NASCAR races – its V8 engine, detachable steering wheel, race dash, gauges, a full roll cage, a race seat with a harness, its wheels and tires, track-focused suspension setup, fuel cell, rear wing, and authentic livery – meaning that it could easily be taken back to the track, if the new owner desires.
This is just one of a few retired Ford Taurus NASCAR racers we’ve seen hit the auction block in recent years, as those models have proven to be quite popular with fans of the series. That list includes a 1998 model driven by Mark Martin, as well as another from the early 2000s campaigned by Ricky Rudd.
