The Ford GT market remains as hot as ever, with every example of that sports car from both generations routinely selling for big bucks at auction. There are some versions of the Ford GT that are worth more than others, including the Heritage Edition and examples that have rarer features like the stripe delete, but each is quite valuable in its own regard, no matter the circumstance. However, this 2006 Ford GT is a bit more special than some, as it was once owned by what most consider to be the greatest hockey player to ever hit the ice – Wayne Gretzky.
This 2006 Ford GT was indeed owned by “The Great One” at one point, but now, it’s up for sale at the duPont Registry with an asking price of $799,990. Aside from its celebrity ownership history, this Ford GT is also a Heritage Edition model, which means that it’s quite rare, desirable, and valuable at the moment, too. It was originally delivered new to Gretzky wearing that iconic Gulf Racing-inspired livery and the legend’s own number adorning the doors – #99.
Otherwise, this is a fantastic example of the 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition, one that has a mere 1,226 miles on the clock. Everything looks like brand new, from the aforementioned exterior body and paintwork to the BBS wheels, and that extends inside as well. There, one will find black leather seats and all of the cool retro features present in these first-generation models, many of which pay homage to the iconic GT40 that propelled Ford to motorsports legend status decades ago.
In terms of power, this Ford GT utilizes the supercharged 5.4L V8 that was factory-rated to produce 550 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque, and it’s mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. Given its celebrity ownership history and the strong interest in these cars recently – something that wasn’t always the case – we don’t doubt that it’ll find a new owner soon, in spite of its lofty asking price.
