We’ve all seen the sort of destruction that trees can cause when they fall on just about anything whether that be a vehicle, a home, or various other objects. In fact, roughly a year ago, we watched as a tree branch fell on a Ford Bronco Sport that was parked in the owner’s driveway, and even that smaller sliver was more than enough to destroy the poor crossover. Luckily, there was no one inside of that vehicle at the time, but that wasn’t the case with this 2017 Ford Escape and its driver, which narrowly escaped tragedy when a tree fell on that small crossover recently.
According to CBS News Philadelphia, the driver of the Ford Escape – Christina Mattoscio – was cruising along Pennsylvania Route 52 when she came to a stop behind another vehicle, right in front of a gas station. Moments later, a large tree fell directly on the crossover, crushing its roof and completely destroying the vehicle itself. Thankfully, the tree landed on the rear passenger portion of the vehicle where no one was sitting, and Mattoscio apparently didn’t suffer any major injuries, though she was taken to the hospital.
Video footage from the nearby gas station captured this entire, horrifying incident, showing just how close Mattoscio was to suffering a much worse fate. John Debow witnessed the incident while working on the air conditioning system on the roof of the gas station, and said it was a miracle that no one was seriously injured. “I was scared someone was hurt, and then when I saw her jump out of the car, I was relieved,” he said. “God helped whoever was in the car escape without injury.”

This isn’t the first time a tree has fallen in this particular area either, it seems, though it’s unclear if the state plans to do anything to prevent this type of accident from happening again. “There are a lot of trees that can fall down at any time. … Last month, there was one big, huge tree that fell down on the same street, just a few feet away,” the owner of the gas station said.

Not to make light of this tragic event, but I can’t resist the image of Jim Farley being behind that tree with a chain saw trying to rid the world of those terrible Escapes so he doesn’t have to build any more.
They were fine until he started putting crappy 3-pot engines in them. I narrowly Escaped buying one myself, and bought a CX-5 instead.
I’m relieved to see the driver Escaped that tree falling.
Why is this a story?
